My Wedding Season Has Begun!

This is the time of the year when I get busy! I am literally scheduling envelopes back to back and have to work very hard to stay on that schedule in order to get everything completed on time. It means lot's of writing and late nights. But - it also means lots of blog posts! I love to post everything to give you ideas - to let you see different fonts and invites together. I love my job!

I've known about this for quite a while and have had to keep it quiet until the publication came out. It's been so hard!!!! There is this really cool online wedding magazine here in Jacksonville and I have been priveledged to get to know the owners via Facebook. I submitted an article about Calligraphy during the Spring/Summer and they accepted it for publication! Right before Christmas, they contacted me to have the video produced to go into the article.

I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I have been! This is a wonderful opportunity for my business and I am very proud to be a part of something so beautifully put together!

A Few Recent Projects

Things always slow down a bit in December as far as wedding envelopes go. But here are a few I have been working on.

I loved these beautiful invites and the dramatic way they names were printed!

But when I saw how they were all put together with a soft, flowing bow! I loved them even more!!!

Chirstmas Projects

I have been extremely busy this week with Christmas orders! I love this time of year! I get a little bit of a break from the envelopes and get to do a lot of keepsake items that will be framed and opened on Christmas. It's very humbling, actually.

Here are a few of the things I worked on this week.

The entire Chapter of Romans 12 on a 16 x 20 - natural parchment - black script

Song lyrics - 11 x 14 - natural parchment - black italic

This was a fun family heirloom. This poem was written by a family member and published in the newspaper in the 1940's - they stumbled across it going through some old papers and wanted me to do so they could frame it.

Marking Place Cards for Your Wait Staff

These are some place cards that I did for an October Wedding. When they left my house they were plain - my calligraphy and the design. Their Wedding Planner, Heather Canada of First Coast Weddings and Events, added all the rhinestones to give them that extra "bling". But they also had another purpose. This bride had a formal dinner reception and needed a way to mark each card so the wait staff would know if the guest was having chicken or beef, etc. The different stones are a discreet yet beautiful way of doing just that without having to add a sticker in the corner. Well done guys!!!!!

Today I had the privilege of filling in a Genealogy Chart. My client had been collecting info and doing research for the last three years and found this beautiful chart to put it all on. I did two copies - one for each of her sisters. What an exciting Christmas Gift!

I love being a part of Family Heirlooms. I was asked to write some of the family's history in this 1941 Bible.

The pages were worn and tattered. It had to be re-bound before it was given to me.

It gives me pause each time I handle something so old and precious that will be passed down for generations. What a privilege to have a small part in helping them tell their story.

Wedding Vows

Last night's project was a set of wedding vows. Usually, I do the vows after the wedding. Typically when the first anniversary rolls around either the bride or groom contact me to do them as a gift. This time, the vows will be used during the wedding ceremony.

I love this idea! Not only does the bride and groom sign them, but so do all of the guests. Room has been left at the bottom for them to sign, promising to support and pray for this couple. Room was also left at the top for art work to be added.

This is done on a 22 x 30 parchment with both the italic and script font. I LOVE how it turned out.

Custom Projects

It's not unusual for me to address hundreds of envelopes each week. Every once in a while, a custom order is thrown in. This week I am doing nothing but custom orders! Well, okay - I have one envelope addressing job for tomorrow - but otherwise all the rest will be special projects.

Each one is special - personalized for the client. I have wedding vows coming up - on both parchment and photo mats. I have a special letter that the matron of honor and sister of the bride wrote as a toast at the wedding. And tonight I finally finished a marriage prayer, along with two letters/poems to be given to the in-laws.

I simply LOVE my job! I love addressing envelopes and adding that final touch to pull the invitations together. I love to see a brides face light up when she sees my finished work with her invites. It's priceless. But I also enjoy taking the time to work on keepsake items that will be framed and hung in someone's home for years to come. It is such an honor.

I LOVE bridal shows! I think it's because I get to go out and meet all the lovely brides-to-be face to face. It's always fun to talk "wedding" and find out what everyone is doing. I loved my wedding day, almost 14 years ago, and it's absolutely amazing to help a new bride put together her day. I sincerely consider it a privilege.

Personalized Photo Mats

Many couples come back to me for their first wedding anniversary, or new couples find me for the first time. Traditionally, the first anniversary gift is paper. They find me online after searching for something creative to give their spouse. Usually, they have me write out their wedding vows, their love song or sometimes even a personal love letter. I always enjoy doing these as they are a keepsake for their home. A symbol of their love and commitment to one another. I especially love it when the men contact me. There are still many romantic guys out there!

Recently, a groom contacted me and challenged me with the idea of not just putting their wedding vows on parchment, but on a photo mat to go around one of their wedding pictures. What a wonderful idea!!! I took the challenge and have now added this twist to the options available in my portfolio. And as you can see - it's becoming a hit!

These latest envelopes are the perfect example of how you can choose a font to compliment your invitation. The bride above chose the italic and it compliments the font on her invitation perfectly!

Love this classy silver and black invite with the tiffany blue bow! The Black Script font goes perfectly with it. And I loved working with the silver envelopes! Great choice ladies!

Love this place card idea! Name on the front - table assignment on the back. I did this in a mixed charcoal gray ink. Notice also that the first letter of everyone's last name is larger. They requested that so the names would be easier and quicker for the guests to find when entering the reception.

I am so excited to have been chosen to be involved with the Operation Thumbs Up Wedding here in Jacksonville.

"They are proof true love really exists. Two legs and two arms are not a requirement for a Jacksonville girl in love with a local marine. Marine Cpl. Tyler Southern is a triple amputee, almost killed when he stepped on an IED in Afghanistan. Now First Coast News is throwing the couple a "Hero's Wedding."

Many wedding vendors throughout the Jacksonville area submitted things we would like to donate to help make their dream wedding a reality. I couldn't think of a more deserving couple and I was thrilled when I received the phone call saying they would like to use my services.

I have been excited to work on some place cards, reserved signs and their personal love song. This can hang in their new home for years to come - complete with their names and wedding date.

Tiffany Blue Ink on Metallic Emerald Green

I always love a new challenge! First of all, I mixed the ink to match her Tiffany Blue liners on the inside envelope. With dark envelopes like this, I never know how the ink will respond. Will it soak into the paper and change colors as it dries or will it sit on top and stand out like I want it to? This did exactly what we wanted it to do! Very fun colors.

The bride had a special request for the font - all lowercase letters! She wanted a clean, simply look to them. The hardest part was just forcing myself to NOT make capitals. Once I got that in my head - it went well!

First of all - I received another order for personal vows on a photo mat. This is going to be an Anniversary gift. Love it! This is a 16 x 20 with the opening cut for an 8 x 10 photo. Wonderful keepsake item.

Reception Card Assortment. Need a way to reserve some tables? Communicate something to your guests? Each one is hand written in the charcoal gray color to match their wedding invitations.

I am working on these wonderful wedding invitations right now.

Are they not amazing? The actual pocket invitation is the envelope. Chelsi gave me one sample put together and then all of the blank pockets. I mixed my ink to match the slate/charcoal gray and am doing both the guest's address as well as the return address. They decided to use the inside pocket (where all of the reception, response card info goes) as their inner envelope information. That way they can still be specific on exactly who is invited to the wedding.

This is actually done on a soft pink Calligraphy parchment. I just got a new camera and am still getting used to the settings. 8 x 10 black italic.

Worked on certificates tonight for CSX here in Jacksonville.

Again - my camera lighting is off. This is done on an 11 x 14 natural parchment. It's the lyrics to their Father/Daughter dance. Daddy will give it to her, framed, as a wedding gift. Very sweet!

I just love being a part of keepsakes!

More Variety in My Week

I've continued to have a variety of projects this week apart from the normal wedding envelopes. These are the last minute projects from brides whose envelopes I've already addressed and their weddings are just around the corner.

11 x 14 seating chart to be framed and posted in the reception hall.

Natural parchment with black italic

Table Cards to match. These are a natural color as well.

This is for a beach wedding. Instead of doing individual programs that might blow away, the couple decided on a 20 x 30 Program Board. The bride will add sea shells, sand, etc to give it the final touch. Hoping to have a photo when it's complete.

Also for the Beach wedding. This will be attached to a basket full of brushes so they can clean their feet before entering the reception.

LOVE these! Great place cards. The bride added the flower and rhinestones herself. I mixed the ink to match.

I've had a few different projects in the last week or so. A break from the regular wedding envelopes.

This is a photo mat for the Timuquana Country Club Board of Governors here in Jacksonville. What an honor!

I always enjoy a break in the wedding envelopes this time of year and tonight I had three completely different projects to work on.

This is a precious poem written by a family member for my client upon the adoption of their son. Having friends who have been through adoption, I just loved this so very much.

My client wanted it large so it could go in a prominent place in the nursery and be easily read.

This is 1 Corinthians 13. My Mother of the Bride had me to this as a gift to her daughter and son in law as this verse will be read at the wedding. The bride's colors are pink and black so this is an 8 x 10 on soft pink parchment with black script. What a nice keepsake.

Last, but not least, is this poem. It will be a gift for my client's friend who recently lost her dog. She's planning on having it framed with a photo of the dog and her owner. I thought this was a very thoughtful gift. I love being a part of keepsake items.

Final Touch to the Popular Pocket Invitations

Black ink is always most formal when addressing your invitations, but it's amazing how a little color can make your invitations really stand out.

These pocket invitations are navy blue and pink so we wanted to make sure that the addresses matched. Doing them in navy blue added a fabulous finishing touch!

Keepsake Projects

I've had two different keepsake projects thrown into the wedding mix this week. I thought I would share.....

These are song lyrics that were played at a funeral of a young wife and mother who died of cancer. I did twelve 8 x 10 copies to be framed and given to the family members upon the anniversary of her passing. I thought this was a very special idea.

I love it when my customers send me photos of my work after it has been framed. I always see my work on a nice piece of parchment before it leaves my house - but the frame and matting always adds that finishing touch!

On a side note - theknot.com's 2011 Best of Weddings List came out today! So excited to be on it! The craziness has begun. I am already booking October Brides. This is going to be a great year!

This Sunday, January 16, you can find me at The Ultimate Bridal Fantasy of Jacksonville. It's at The Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village from 1 - 4 pm.

I love Bridal Shows! As a stay-at- home mom, it's a break in my routine. A day when I get to go out and rub elbows with other adults in the business and excited brides who are planning their weddings. I enjoy going out and meeting people face to face and sharing my business with them. I always come home exhausted and usually hoarse - but it's always worth it!

I received a very exciting phone call last week. Seems I have been chosen by my brides and The Knot.com to win the 2011 Best of Weddings Award!

I didn't even know I was in the running! What an honor and privilege this is! Thanks to everyone who had great things to say about me and about my business. I work very hard to make the process easy on you so you can just drop your things off and know that when they are returned, they will be beautiful.

Working on a few more Christmas projects this week.......

I do custom work on mats. This is one of those frames that allows photos for each school year as your child grows. The client had me put the baby's name on it and will be giving it as a gift to the Grandparents. Neat idea!

Love this one! It was a challenge as it's a 14 x 18 with Black Italic. I thought it came out great!

Early 1800's era Letter to be Used in Movie.......

Earlier in the week, I received a quote request out of California for an authentic looking, early 1800's era letter to be used on screen in a movie. How cool is that? They begin filming in Los Angeles on Dec. 10.

The request details were:

"This letter will be featured on screen so it needs to look authentic. Furthermore, the letter is written by a well educated man (so it would look very nice and formal). There would be no address or signature as the letter is written in haste and delivered in secret."

This is a 3 ft x 4 ft canvas picture that a new mom brought to me. She wanted me to add her newborn son's birth info on it as it was going to hang in his nursery. It took me a little bit to figure out what type of ink to use - but here is the finished product. I thought it turned out great!

Hill Breast Center Ribbons

Okay - I absolutely LOVE when I get contacted to do something new and sentimental. It's always fun to help someone comes up with a creative project and this one is no exception. What a neat gift idea!

This Father of the Bride contacted me last week to Calligraphy the toast that he will give his daughter and then son-in-law during their reception. How fun is that? If a videographer is hired for the wedding, it will forever be captured on DVD, but having it hand written, to hang in your home after the wedding, now that's a special memory! What a creative wedding gift. Well done, Dad!

A Few New Projects

Haven't had much to blog about lately. This is my down season. Things slow down a bit as we enter into the holidays. I just finished a big round for October weddings and now things will begin to pick up for Christmas gifts. Although I do have a few December weddings on the schedule. I've had a few inquiries about addressing Christmas cards as well. Gotta love those well organized people!

I am already booking brides in January. This is exciting! I love the brides that plan ahead and book me early. So many, unfortunately, wait until their invitations come back from the printer to call me to set something up. Usually by that time, they are in a rush to get them out as well. I hate having to turn people away and always work extra hard not to, but sometimes I have no other choice. On average, I do 12 - 15 weddings per month from January - July. That technically only gives me 2 or 3 days to get each set of envelopes done. It can become rather stressful and eventually, I have to say "no" because it's not humanly possible for me to keep up with all of the orders.

I say all this so that if you know that you want to use me for your wedding, get on my schedule asap. I only require a 50% deposit based on your estimated number of envelopes. This holds a spot for you. I don't double book so the date you pick is yours exclusively. When I finish addressing your envelopes, I bill you the difference. This allows you to budget Calligraphy into your wedding a lot easier as it breaks everything into 2 payments. And it guarantees that I will be able to do the work. I just attended two Bridal Shows and I always offer a 10% discount for any booking made at the show. I'm going to honor the 10% for the rest of the month of September. Just mention the Bridal Show Discount when you contact me.

Marriage Proposal

It's always fun when a creative guy calls me to help him with a marriage proposal! I worked on 5 different letters this week to help him to get ready to pop the question!

Each letter was done on a different color parchment and placed in a parchment envelope.

Each envelope was marked and then sealed with a wax seal

And then there is the 8 x 10 marriage proposal itself to be presented at dinner.
